Tragic Death of Binil Babu in Ukraine: Details of the Incident
In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Binil Babu, a native of Thrissur, Kerala, tragically lost his life on the battlefield in Ukraine after falling into the clutches of a Russian mercenary group. The most gut-wrenching part of this story is that Binil never got the chance to lay eyes on his newborn son, who entered the world just four months prior.
About The Journey That Turned Tragic
Binil, an electrician by trade, had previously worked in Oman but returned to his hometown in Kerala due to salary delays and other complications a few months back, marking the end of his time as an expatriate. In pursuit of better job prospects, Binil and his relative Jain were misled by a distant relative who lured them with promises of employment in Poland. Little did they know that their destination was actually Russia, not Poland, until visa procedures were nearly finalized.
Forced into Mercenary Work
Upon arrival in Russia, Binil and Jain found themselves in the clutches of a mercenary group. Initially, they underwent training and were later tasked with duties like delivering food to the battlefield and constructing trenches. The situation escalated when they were thrust into direct deployment on the battlefield. Jain’s last words hinted that he might not be able to reach out again.
Tragic End on the Battlefield
Binil met his untimely demise in Ukraine after sustaining injuries in a shell attack on the battlefield. Hailing from Tholath House in Kuttanellur, Thrissur, Binil was the son of Babu and Laisa. Efforts to repatriate Binil and Jain were underway when the devastating news of Binil’s passing reached his family, leaving them shattered.
In the wake of this tragedy, Binil’s loved ones and the local community are enveloped in sorrow. His wife and infant son, who never had the chance to embrace him, now grapple with the weight of his absence.
As authorities and relatives persist in their quest to bring Jain back home safely, Binil’s family and friends mourn the loss of a man who aspired to carve out a brighter future for his dear ones but was met with a calamitous fate in a foreign land. Binil’s story is a stark reminder of the sacrifices made by many individuals caught in the crossfires of conflicts not of their making.
This is the second instance of a Kerala man losing his life while serving with the Russian Army in Ukraine, following the tragic demise of Sandeep, another Thrissur resident, in August 2023. Reports also suggest that numerous Indians have been coerced into combat roles with the Russian Army in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, underscoring the harrowing realities faced by unsuspecting individuals thrust into the throes of war.
