A tram in Dresden derailed on Wednesday when it collided with a car. A heavily pregnant woman who was traveling on the line 2 train was taken care of by the emergency services and taken to a hospital to be on the safe side, the fire brigade said. The driver was unharmed, and the occupants of the tram escaped with a fright. The car was badly damaged in the accident in Friedrichstadt.

Firefighters were still busy putting the derailed tram back on the rails in the evening. This is difficult and will probably take hours, said the spokesman. Motorists were asked to drive around the Lübecker Strasse/Pennricher Strasse area.

It was said that countless individual steps were necessary to bring the train safely into the starting position. It is first to be lifted and placed on a sliding bridge. It is then pushed back onto the track bit by bit until it can be placed back on the tracks.

According to police, a car failure to give way led to the accident. Further details, such as the amount of damage, were not initially known. The train was heading towards Kleinzschachwitz.
