Universal Audio Launches New LA-6176 Signature Channel Strip Plugin

Universal Audio has recently unveiled their latest plugin, the LA-6176 Signature Channel Strip. This innovative plugin combines emulations of three iconic analog pieces of equipment – the 610 tube preamp, 1176 FET compressor, and LA-2A tube compressor. The LA-6176 is a software version of the hardware unit released in 2004 that merged the 610 Modular Amplifier preamp with the classic 1176LN compressor.

According to Universal Audio CEO Bill Putnam Jr, the LA-6176 plugin started as a faithful emulation of the original 6176 Channel Strip but evolved into something more. He describes it as a “what if we just…” type of plugin, highlighting the addition of LA-2A circuitry that couldn’t physically fit into the original hardware.

The LA-6176 plugin allows users to seamlessly switch between the punchier, FET-based compression of the 1176 and the smoother, gentler sound of the LA-2A, while benefiting from the harmonic character and overdrive of the 610 preamp. It features the contemporary 610-B circuit with advanced EQ controls.

Available in UAD Native and UAD-2 formats, the LA-6176 plugin does not require any UA hardware to operate. For Apollo interface owners, the plugin is compatible with UA’s Unison modeling technology, providing an authentic replication of the 610’s unique characteristics.

Priced at $299, the LA-6176 Signature Channel Strip is currently on sale for $99 until June 30 as part of UA’s promotional offer. For more information and to purchase the plugin, visit Universal Audio’s website.
