This spectacular circus has a well-deserved reputation. All the water of the earth seem have joined together to feed the Giffre River and its eponymous valley. The aptly named “End of the World” is where you will find yourself.

This grandiose circus is the largest in the Alps. To see it, imagine a U-shaped amphitheater spanning several kilometers. It’s framed by imposing and vertiginous cliffs between 500 and 700 meters high, from which dozens upon waterfalls rise. These walls are irrigated by as many veins as possible.

It is easily accessible from the parking lot (paying), at the terminus de la route de Sixt. The spectacle begins with the two-hour easy walk. This allows you to walk in a loop all along the horseshoe, surrounded by high mountains. These waterfalls, which have also been given their names, are dominating the area. The Fontaine d’Or, located near the famous Meridian is the most prominent, but others like the Lyre and the Violon succeed it, as well as the Gouille…

This beautiful area is ideal for family picnics and walks. Hikers who are very skilled can also take long-distance hikes to places like the Grenairon refuge, Vogealle refuge, or Mont Buet. Mont-Blanc des dames (also known as Mont-Blanc des Dames) is the highest point at 3,100m in the Haut-Giffre mountain massif.

You can also wander on the PR marked paths (walk and hike) during the tour to the Dents Blanches or the tour to the Ruan. Unless the freshness and “epicurean”, trend prevails, you can appreciate the other waterfalls on the territory de Sixt: thesauffaz, the Pleureuse, side-by-side with the discreet Saubaudy, Dechargeux, and the Rouget waterfall (accessible via car). It is made up of two projections and rises to more than 80 meters tall with a translucent veil that appears like a giant mist sprayer.
