With summer just around the corner, foreign productions are slowly starting to converge on La Belle Province. While awaiting the visit of the Scream 6 team starting next month, Montreal has been hosting the filming of another American horror film, The Sacrifice Game, for the past few days.
The second feature film by American director Jenn Wexler (after The Ranger, released in 2018), The Sacrifice Game will star Canadian actor of Egyptian origin Mena Massoud, the star of the latest Aladdin film. He will be surrounded in particular by Chloe Levine (The OA), Gus Kenworthy (American Horror Story) and Olivia Scott Welch (Fear Street).
Set on the campus of a college for girls during the Christmas holidays of 1971, the plot of The Sacrifice Game revolves around two students whose tranquility is threatened by the visit of intruders in the middle of the night. The film will be distributed by Shudder, an online distribution platform devoted to horror cinema.
Chills in town
The Sacrifice Game will not be the only American horror film to be shot in Montreal this summer. In early June, American directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will land in the metropolis to orchestrate the filming of the sixth installment of Scream (Chills), the popular horror saga created by American filmmaker Wes Craven in 1996.
Courteney Cox (one of the original stars of the franchise), Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere and Mason Gooding have already confirmed their appearance in this new film with a budget of 35 million dollars. Filming for Scream 6 is expected to continue throughout the summer in Montreal.
