“Sharon Stone wrapped around my stole!” Rodolphe Martinez couldn’t believe it. “I would have never imagined that Florence Lafragette, artistic director at Petrusse and editor’s note, called me to tell me “you are going have a surprise”, but it was so unexpected. It’s a great pleasure, an honor, it will prove difficult to do better.
The photo was shared all over social media and is now a classic: it shows the American icon in a beautifully stylized setting, with the kiss of a mythical, Frenchy couple (Belmondo & Deneuve), and wrapped in the sublime, luminous stole by the Girondine House – the epitome of chic.
Rodolphe Martinez, a journalist at France Bleu Gironde hosts “Place des grands hommes” Sunday mornings. He is also an artist and visual artist. For five years, he collaborates with Maison Petrusse (creator of the stoles at Chateau Mauric in Langon).
He designed the famous “Rodolphe Rose Indien” stole, which Florence Lafragette (the artistic director of the Girondine House) had chosen to go with a dress she had made especially for her stay at Cannes. Maison Petrusse, a third-time partner of the Festival’s technical commission, had a space in which to display its stoles in a Marriott suite.
Florence Lafragette says, “We conceived this dress idea at the evening of Petrusse’s 25th spring, April 25th.” Rodolphe sent Rodolphe drawings and Petrusse’s group (with Justine, the textile designer, and Clementine the workshop manager) began the making of this special piece.
The designer says, “I made it specifically for the climb up the steps of Florence. She left with the stole thinking it would look great with her dress.” Florence Lafragette finally has taken the stole out of the Mariott suite. “I decided not to charge for my outfit. Chance and the magic of Cannes did the rest. Nathalie Dubois was in the famous suite and saw the Petrusse steal. She later gave it to Sharon Stone and took the famous picture, which circulated the networks.
Denys Beaumatin is Florence’s husband. He organizes Petrusse at festivals and selects the stoles for actresses and actors. English is “Stone”. They were meant for each other!
