In the first half of the year, 93 people died on Saxony’s roads. That is 44 people or 89.8 percent more than in the same period last year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday in Kamenz. Almost half (44 percent) of the victims were older than 65 years. Inappropriate speed was the cause of the most serious accidents. For this reason, 33 people died and 406 were seriously injured.

The number of drivers killed in road traffic has particularly increased (47), which is 30 more than in the first half of 2022. 16 people had fatal accidents while cycling in the first few months of this year, eight of whom were on a Pedelec.
