Minnesotans Eligible for Up to $1,500 in E-Bike Rebates Starting Wednesday
Cyclists in Minnesota, get ready to hit the road with a new set of wheels as the state launches its online application for e-bike rebates on Wednesday. The rebates, worth up to $1,500, are available based on an applicant’s income and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, as announced by the Minnesota Department of Revenue.
E-bikes, or electric bikes, have gained popularity for their rechargeable electric motors that assist cyclists with pedaling. With prices ranging from $600 to $2,500 or more, these bikes offer an eco-friendly and convenient mode of transportation.
Minnesota joins a handful of states in offering e-bike rebates, with the online system capping applications at 10,000 requests. Qualified applicants who receive a rebate certificate must purchase their e-bike from one of the 190+ approved retailers across the state, with discounts ranging from 50% to 75% off the cost of the bike and accessories.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old, Minnesota residents in 2024 and 2025, and provide necessary personal and financial information. The Department of Revenue will notify successful applicants via email and distribute the first round of rebate certificates by July 1, funded by $2 million allocated for 2024 and 2025.
However, with a limited number of rebates available, not all applicants may receive approval initially, leading to a waitlist for a potential second round in October. The growing demand for e-bikes globally, driven by health consciousness and environmental concerns, reflects a booming market expected to reach $78 billion by 2028.
