CF Intercity, the first Spanish club to be listed on the stock exchange, continues to climb the ladder in football and this Sunday it made the jump to the RFEF First Division, the bronze category, by finishing as leader of its group thanks to a goalless draw against La Nucía (0-0), the rival against whom the first place was played on the last day of the championship. The Alicante team thus signs its fourth promotion in just five years of life, a brilliant sporting career that, however, is not reflected in its accounts, where losses have been happening.
During the 2020-2021 academic year, Intercity registered losses amounting to 2,300,000 euros, an amount that joins those suffered a year earlier, where the Alicante entity presented a negative balance of one million euros, according to the audit of annual accounts of the 2019-2020 season.
Two seasons ago, the income of the only Spanish soccer club listed on the stock market barely exceeded 300,000 euros. The gap accumulated in the last two years, more than three million losses, has had to be compensated by the capital increases covered by its shareholders
Founded in 2017, the objective of Intercity, which already has 1,400 shareholders, is to continue its progression to reach professional football, from which, after the promotion achieved this Sunday, only one category separates it. The team from Alicante, coached by the Argentinian Gustavo Siviero, secured the jump in category with much suffering because he played almost 50 minutes with one less player against La Nucía, the rival who could take the lead on the last day.
Intercity currently has a first men’s team that this season has competed in the RFEF Second Division, a women’s team in the Valencian First Regional Division, a “B” men’s team in the First Regional Division, a beach soccer team that plays in the Mediterranean League and a grassroots soccer school in San Juan.
