I bought five kilos of plums from my greengrocer. A wooden box full of sweet, purple fruits that smell like autumn when you imagine the right spices. I don’t know what got into me: why did I buy a whole box of these!?

My two year old loves the fruit for snacking. She was particularly taken with the stone. After eating about a kilogram of plums, she found out empirically that every single one really does have it. Four kilos left. boil down! My grandmother liked to do that, refined with cinnamon and sugar, the plum puree becomes a hit with yeast plaited bread with butter.
