Ballermann on Mallorca conquered the German charts for the first time in 2022: The controversial song “Layla” was number one for nine weeks and was officially named hit of the year in December. Newcomer Julian Sommer (25) made it to seventh place with “Dicht im Flieger”. The new season officially begins on Thursday with the opening of the Bierkönig in El Arenal. Will the boom continue?

“This year more Ballermann hits will be produced than ever before,” believes Malle icon Ikke Hipgold. The 46-year-old (“Big Tits, Potato Salad”, “I’m still swaying”) made it into the German ESC preliminary round in March with plenty of fan support. The reason for his forecast: “Everyone wants to take advantage of the boom of the past year.”

But who has what it takes to be the “Layla” successor?

Shooting star Sommer and his colleague Mia Julia (“Finally Malle again”) got into position early. In March they released their party duet “Peter Pan” – with success. The song was streamed more often in the first week than any other party hit before, reports the record company Universal. It went straight to number 24 in the charts.

“It was already clear to me that it would be well received, because the song is simply cool from my point of view. But I wouldn’t have expected it to be so blatant,” explains Sommer in the dpa interview. “It’s just a hit that’s fun and made it without any scandals,” adds his duet partner Mia Julia Brückner.

“Fuck, I’m blue as the ocean again. And I think I can fly like Peter Pan.” The party ode to the eternally young children’s hero is catchy, produced in a modern way and therefore definitely has what it takes to be the Ballermann hit of the season. In the party temples Bierkönig and Megapark, he’ll be running up and down before the official openings on the next two weekends, confirms Bierkönig DJ Cashi.

“Sweet elves here in Neverland” and the word “pimmel” (because it rhymes so beautifully with heaven) may not be missing. But music critics really can’t label “Peter Pan” as sexist.

Malle icon Ikke Hipgold back at the start

With this label, the “Layla” singer Schürze and DJ Robin managed to stay in the conversation (and thus in the charts) last year. This time they stand by “Layla” producer Hipgold with his Malle hit “Bumsbar”.

The – let’s say – life-affirming text: “Today we’re bangable again. Horny girls, horny boys there. We’re partying all night together until the sun shines again and then: we’re fuckable again.”

In the music video, cheerful young women in nun costumes sing. According tohip gold a “statement against celibacy in the Catholic Church”. Perhaps it was more of a calculation by PR professional Hip Gold to provoke similarly controversial reactions as with “Layla” (“She’s prettier, younger, hornier”).

Either way, the song, which will be released at the end of April, definitely has what it takes to become a Malle hit in 2023. “Ciao, three days blue” by David Dichter, Peter Wackel’s “Inselfieber” or “Maradona” by Killermichel and Tommy Fieber could also be involved .

But when does a party hit also have what it takes to become a Playa evergreen? “It’s important to me how a song works live and what songs people sing when they leave the store. But of course it’s also about streaming and sales, these numbers don’t lie,” says Sommer.

In the race for the Ballermann hit of the year, you can’t get past one man: Mickie Krause. The hit guarantor from the Münsterland (“Go get a beer, you’ll be ugly again”) has so far kept a low profile about which anthem(s) he will present this season. In any case, the 52-year-old should be serious competition for Peter Pan and the party nuns.
