After the approval of the new salary by the Assembly held this Monday, Luis Rubiales will receive 675,761 euros in 2022 as president of the Spanish Football Federation, a fixed amount in which he will no longer have variable income, as it appeared in your previous contract.
Rubiales’ salary as president of the RFEF is higher than that received by those responsible for other European federations. In the case of the German company, another of those that generate the most income, its president, Fritz Keller, earns 246,000 euros gross per year, that is, 400,000 euros less than the Spanish leader.
The income of senior officials of the German Football Federation (DFB) was regulated in 2020, establishing a maximum salary with the aim of gaining public credibility by making their management more transparent.
Fritz Keller, who earns the most, earns 429,761 euros less than Rubiales.
In 2021, Luis Rubiales’ annual salary was 634,518 euros gross (339,237 net) and, once the 2021 accounts were closed, the amount that should be taken as the basis for calculating the 2022 remuneration was 680,827 euros, plus last year’s CPI (6.5 percent) and housing assistance.
At the request of Rubiales, the base of the remuneration will be 634,518 euros this year. Thus, the proposal approved this Monday, with the updated CPI, is 675,761 euros gross (371,669 net) and housing aid is reduced, leaving it at 3,000 euros gross per month (1,650 euros net), figures that will be applied retroactively from on January 1, 2022. In this way, the salary of the president of the RFEF will have a reduction of about 50,000 euros per year from the variable part.
The predecessor of Rubiales at the head of the RFEF, Ángel María Villar, who was in charge of Spanish football for almost three decades (1988-2017), had a salary of 150,000 euros. It must be remembered that the RFEF budget for 2022 is 406 million euros, 50 million more than budgeted in 2021.
