A fire broke out early Monday morning at a paper recycling plant west of Bonn. In Swisttal (Rhein-Sieg district), an approximately 25 by 50 meter warehouse with plastic waste is on fire, said a fire department spokesman. The fire brigade is therefore with 120 forces in the extinguishing operation. The spokesman was unable to provide any information on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

The operation will continue into the afternoon. The melting of the plastic forms a hard shell under which it continues to burn, as the fire department spokesman said. Therefore, the firefighting operation lasted several hours.

Road traffic was not affected by the extinguishing work. According to the fire brigade spokesman, residents of the surrounding villages were informed about the fire via the warning app Nina and warned to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off air conditioning and ventilation systems.
