If everyone lived like in Germany, the natural resources available on earth for this year would be used up, even though the year is not even halfway through. This is what the international campaign “Global Footprint Network” determined, which calculates a national overload day for almost every country on earth and for the entire planet. The global Earth Overshoot Day has not yet been named for 2023, but an overview of the individual countries has.

Qatar was therefore the first to run out of resources for this year: If all people lived as they do in the desert state, the resources would have been used up on February 10th. Luxembourg followed four days later. The last overload day of the year is in Benin, where it is dated 12/26/2023. In the first half of the year, it is mainly the large industrialized nations whose way of life is very resource-intensive, while in the second half it is mostly the emerging and developing countries.

Note: This is an overview of selected countries. Data were not available for all countries worldwide.
