Carles Puigdemont will cease to be president of Junts today and in his farewell speech, during the party’s 2nd congress to be held in Argelès-sur-Mer (France) this Saturday, he spared no criticism of Spain, the country’s governments , the Justice and the judges and, also, against his partners in the Generalitat of Catalonia and with whom he has been governing the community since 2016. Along with Puigdemont, the general secretary of Junts, Jordi Sànchez, has also been fired.
Introduced by a two-minute video with the ‘best’ milestones of Puigdemont’s stage since he took charge of the Generalitat, in January 2016, and with special dedication to the ‘procés’ and his flight from Spain, the MEP, who He has begun his speech by greeting “the spied men and women”, in reference to the Pegasus case, he has assured that all the Governments of Spain “lie” and persecute Catalan speakers, and the judges are “an extension” of the Vox parliamentary group .
The former Catalan regional president has also had time to charge against ERC. On the one hand, without citing them, he has reproached the leaders of this party for not having the “exile” of Belgium more in mind and, in addition, he has accused them of not recognizing “reality” by insisting on wanting to negotiate with the Government. “By not recognizing the reality principle, they want to benefit the well-being of their cadres, but it has catastrophic consequences for citizens,” he added.
Puigdemont has thus said goodbye to the Presidency of Junts, a party to which he has predicted a great future “as long as we are recognized for what they voted for us.” Shortly before, Sànchez, also in his farewell speech, lamented like the ‘ex-president’ that ERC insists on negotiating a hypothetical independence referendum with the Government of Spain when, in Sànchez’s opinion, this path is impossible. Laura Borràs and Jordi Turull will take over from Puigdemont and Sànchez at the head of Junts.
