A truck driver briefly fell asleep at the wheel and left the road on Autobahn 93 in Upper Bavaria. The semitrailer first broke through the guardrail near Wolnzach (Pfaffenhofen district) on Wednesday night and then overturned on an embankment, the police said. The 53-year-old driver was reportedly able to free himself from the driver’s cab and was unharmed. According to the police, the cause of the accident was a microsleep by the man due to fatigue.
The impact ripped open the truck’s tank and several hundred liters of fuel were spilled at the scene of the accident. During the rescue work, the A93 in the direction of Holledau was completely blocked for more than five hours.
