After a long silence, US President Joe Biden has spoken publicly for the first time about his seventh grandchild, the four-year-old daughter of his son Hunter Biden (53). The girl, named Navy Joan Roberts, comes from an affair between Hunter Biden and Lunden Roberts (32) from the US state of Arkansas.
“Our son Hunter and Navy’s mother, Lunden, work together to nurture a relationship that is in her daughter’s best interests,” Biden told People magazine in a statement on Friday. Both parents made every effort to protect the child’s privacy.
Biden speaks plain language
Biden, who sees himself as a big family man, has remained silent about his seventh grandchild for the past few years. The 80-year-old actually likes to talk about his grandchildren and calls them regularly. One adult granddaughter even lives with her husband with the Catholic in the White House.
“Jill and I only want what’s best for all of our grandchildren, including Navy,” Biden said. This is not a political but a family matter, he stressed.
Hunter Biden initially denied the girl’s paternity until a DNA test clarified it. In recent months, he has been in court with the mother over the amount of child support payments. In his memoirs he wrote that he met Lunden Roberts, who worked as a stripper in a Washington nightclub, at a time when he was heavily addicted to alcohol and drugs. In addition to Navy, Hunter Biden has four other children from two marriages.
