The emergency calls were received by the fire brigade in Velbert shortly after midnight. Several residents had reported the huge fire in the bus depot in the industrial area, as the fire brigade announced early Monday morning. When the emergency services arrived in large numbers, six buses, a car and a truck were already ablaze.
The destroyed vehicles also leaked diesel, which had to be sucked off. A power line was also damaged. Although the fire was under control after around half an hour, the post-extinguishing work lasted until 3:30 a.m.
How the fire started was still unclear in the morning. According to the police, the fire caused damage of around 1.3 million euros. Nobody got hurt. A total of 60 rescuers were deployed.
