A human life? A blink of an eye. A millennium? Just a moment. About 50 meters underground, the sense of time changes. In the “Hall of Miracles” in a branch of the Baradla Cave, bizarre formations appear in the light cone of the flashlight: stalactites in white, orange-red, brown.
Down here, time can be measured in centimetres: where water drips from the ceiling, a ring of white limestone remains that grows into a stalactite. Very slowly, one centimeter in 100 years. The drops fall to the ground, lime is left behind, and a stalagmite is formed. And because the water not only drips, but also runs down sloping surfaces, dams, pools and walls are also formed.
