The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team also narrowly lost their second game in the new Bundesliga season. Five days after the 29:31 defeat against Füchse Berlin, coach Runar Sigtryggsson’s team had to admit defeat on Saturday evening at MT Melsungen by 27:28 (15:14). In front of 2831 spectators, Viggo Kristjansson became the best Leipzig thrower with seven goals. At Melsungen Dainis towered over Kristopans with ten goals.

The nervousness that Sigtryggsson had complained about in his protégés in the game against Berlin also made things difficult for the SC DHfK in the initial phase with the Melsungers, who were victorious at the start of the season. Franz Semper only scored the first Leipzig goal after almost six minutes. The returnee initially kept his team in the game with energetic offensive actions. From the tenth minute the guests stabilized and, after a strong phase by national player Luca Witzke, took the lead for the first time at 11:10 (21st minute).

In the second half, both teams increasingly lost their playful line, the mistakes piled up. Up to 24:22 (51 st ) the Leipzig team maintained a slight lead, before they allowed Melsunger to run 5:1 to 27:25 (56 th ) with careless defensive behavior. In the hectic final phase, the guests equalized again to 27:27 (58 th ) through Lukas Binder, before David Mandic threw the hosts to victory with 110 seconds before the end.
