When Tim Mälzer and Tim Raue are in the kitchen together, it can only mean one thing: Friends Edition on “Kitchen Impossible”. For years, the two have been fighting each other in relentless cooking duels for the grand finale, putting their friendship to the test. “It is well known that we have a special relationship,” says Mälzer. For him, the Friends Special is becoming the highlight of every season – “and that can only happen with Tim Raue”. A star chef is not enough for a maltster. When it comes to the crown on “Kitchen Impossible”, it’s going to be big. The Austrian star chef Hans Neuner turns the duo into a trio infernale – and so friends become enemies and then friends again and …

One-on-one-on-one situation for the season finale of “Kitchen Impossible”: three chefs compete against each other in the Friends special. In addition to “Mister Kitchen Impossible” Tim Mälzer, regular guest Tim Raue will of course also be there again – it’s already his eighth time. This time, the two invited the Austrian star chef Hans Neuner to a competitive cooking threesome.

The rules of the game: one chef each gives the other two a task. On site, they have to taste the same dish and cook it at the same time. The dishes are then evaluated by the same jury in a direct comparison. The cook who has the most points after the two tasks wins.

Tim Mälzer sends Tim Raue and Hans Neuner to Hans Jörg Bachmeier, who owns two restaurants in Munich. The food is “Beim Sedlmayr”, the recipe comes from his ex-chef Eckart Witzigmann.Dish: Crispy roast with potato dumplings and coleslaw

Tim Raue and Tim Mälzer cook in cold Norway in the underwater restaurant Under, which has been awarded a Michelin star by Nicolai Ellitsgaard.Dish: fish pudding

Tim Mälzer and Hans Neuner are sent to Greece by Tim Raue, where they have to recreate critical sustainable cuisine by Panagiotis Manganas at Organic Farm Peskesi.Dish: Lamb knuckle with Stamnagathi and Moustalevria

Hans Neuner first had to drink a broth. A little too much alcohol had flowed the night before, and my stomach was complaining. The star chef wasn’t doing really well, although that was still the good part of his day. Neuner experienced his personal dumpling waterloo in Munich. He tinkered and tinkered, but he couldn’t make the dumplings à la Witzigmann. At some point the chef was so fed up that he first had to get out into the air to smoke a cigarette. He was obviously served. So much suffering even softened Tim Raue’s heart and got him to help out with a tip.

Tim Mälzer knows exactly which buttons he has to press with Tim Raue in order to throw him off plan and isn’t afraid to do it to excess. You can do it with friends – even if the friendship gets a few cracks, at least in the short term. Raue is already familiar with these mind games, but although the Berliner had made up his mind not to let himself be provoked, he didn’t really want to succeed. In the kitchen, Mälzer is just an asshole, he stated, visibly annoyed. Mälzer smirked.

In Norway, Mälzer and Raue are to recreate a dish by original chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard. He makes no secret of being a fan of Raue, calling him an inspiration. But who this other Tim is supposed to be is a mystery to him: “What’s the last name?”. At first he didn’t really take the maltster seriously. But while Raue goes to work in a far too cerebral way, Mälzer recognizes the underlying simplicity of the traditional dish. He has a talent for selecting the ingredients and preparing them – even Ellitsgaard is impressed by that. The maltster’s copy of the sauce tasted so good that he toyed with the idea of modifying his own recipe accordingly. An accolade for maltsters!

The Friends Edition wouldn’t be a Friends Edition if at least one friend didn’t stab the other in the back with the proverbial knife. This time it was Hans Neuner who got the cunning of the rogue Mälzer. The hamburger led Neuner in Greece with a perfidious strategy in preparation – and had a great time. But whoever digs a pit for others…

Everyone won and yet somehow only one won. Mälzer, Raue and Neuner each won a duel. But in the end it’s the points that count. For the grand finale, Tim Mälzer once again proves that there can only be one “Mister Kitchen Impossible” – him.
