According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the prospects for a white Christmas are not good in large parts of Germany. A sustainable snow cover down to the lowlands is unlikely, explained DWD meteorologist Marcel Schmid on Monday in Offenbach. There are still many uncertainties. “The weather situation offers great potential for surprises. From intermittent showers of snow to a storm or continuous rain, everything is possible,” explained Schmid.

According to the forecast, the coming days will be characterized more and more by low pressure and it will be very windy. This Tuesday, high pressure will only remain in the south. According to the DWD, it is unclear whether the sun can fight its way through the fog. In the north and in the center there will be intermittent rain from dense clouds. It is stormy in higher mountain areas. The maximum temperatures are between 5 and 10 degrees, with thick fog it sometimes stays at 2 degrees.

From Wednesday it will rain heavily in some areas with highs between 3 and 9 degrees. According to the information, it snows above 800 meters. It is also windy and stormy in the northeast. Gusts of wind must be expected on the coast and in the mountains.

Thursday is forecast to be stormy, overcast and rainy. The DWD expects heavy rain in the Alps and low mountain ranges, as well as mild temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees. There is a risk of hurricane gusts from westerly directions at sea and in the mountains. On Friday night, the DWD expects regionally heavy gusts of wind to reach the lowlands, in the mountains and on the coasts.
