The ADAC expects the most traffic jams to occur on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. On Christmas Eve, which falls on Sunday, it is expected to be rather quiet, as is the first holiday. Return travel begins in the afternoon on Boxing Day, but often only after the public holiday on Wednesday, December 27th. On these days, many people are returning from Christmas vacation or starting their winter vacation.

The ADAC expects traffic jams abroad, especially on the trunk roads to the winter sports resorts, such as the Tauern, Inntal and Brenner motorways in Austria, the Fernpass route and the Tyrolean, Salzburg and Vorarlberg federal roads. Even more traffic jams than usual can be expected on the Tauern and Brenner motorways because there is urgently needed construction work.

In Switzerland, longer waiting times must be expected on the Gotthard route, the access roads to the ski areas of Graub√ľnden, the Bernese Oberland, Valais and central Switzerland. In Italy, in addition to the Brenner route, the roads to Pusteria, Val Gardena, Val Badia and Vinschgau are also most at risk.
