The ministries in Saxony-Anhalt have only paid out a good half of the Corona special fund in the past two years. As the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung” reported (Friday), the ministries used around 616 million euros from it – 1.1 billion euros were available. Accordingly, 477 million euros remained unused.
“The outflow of funds is not going optimally and is behind the original planning,” said the Ministry of Finance. The state government’s goal remains to fully pay out the almost two billion euros earmarked for the Corona special fund at the time of its establishment. According to the Ministry of Finance, the individual departments are in demand.
“Due to the new legal situation triggered by a Federal Constitutional Court ruling in November 2023, the extent to which this plan can be implemented and by when the funds must be made available is currently being explored at state policy level,” it continued. According to original plans, the state government wanted to provide a total of two billion euros in the Corona special fund by 2027.
Particularly little money from the Corona fund was used by the Ministry of Health in 2022 and 2023. The ministry only paid out 14 of the planned 198 million euros. The Ministry of Education used eight of 44 million euros in the same period.
