Oliver Schaffer tears open the two cardboard boxes with both hands. The parts for the Wiener Hofburg finally arrived in the mail. The replica of the building in which the Congress of Vienna met from 1814 to 1815 is to be around one and a half meters long. There are no construction instructions for this. While Schaffer’s Hofburg is based on the original, it will consist of elements that were originally intended to make something whole: two pink Playmobil doll houses.
Schaffer’s assistant Leonard Keim grabs parts and puts them together in the way his exhibition organizer had in mind. Then Keim dismantles the shell back into its individual parts and sprays them with the facade paint that is true to the model.
