Two construction workers who capsized their work boat were rescued from the Rhine in Koblenz on Monday. One of the men held on to a work pontoon, the other was floating in the water, said the Koblenz water police. The workers were taken to a hospital to be checked. Both were wearing life jackets.
According to the water police, the construction site boat capsized while attempting to cross the Rhine from the left to the right bank in the area of the Pfaffendorfer Bridge construction site. The cause was “probably a driving error due to the strong flow conditions in the area of the bridge pier construction site”.
The flooded boat was secured and recovered. “Small quantities of operating materials” entered the Rhine. The investigation by the Koblenz water police to determine the exact cause of the accident was ongoing.
