Karsten Ritter-Lang is the new president of the women’s Bundesliga club Turbine Potsdam. Born in Berlin, he received 94 yes votes, two against and two abstentions at the general meeting of the six-time German women’s champion on Friday in the Potsdam Congress Hotel. The 60-year-old doctor was the only candidate.

The presidential election had become necessary because long-standing president Rolf Kutzmutz resigned in the summer over the separation from coach Sofian Chahed. A few weeks ago, Vice President Uwe Reher also gave up his post.

Ritter-Lang takes over the current table bottom of the Bundesliga in what is probably his most difficult situation. Chahed’s successor Sebastian Middeke was released after the weak start to the season with just one point from the first games at the end of October, a new coach is still being sought.

It was also announced on Friday that the cooperation between Turbine and Hertha BSC, which was established in 2020, will not be extended in summer 2023 because Hertha wants to set up its own women’s football department. This means that Potsdam is missing a six-figure amount every year, which accounted for a significant proportion of the budget.
