With an action at the Reichstag in Berlin-Mitte, the environmental protection organization Greenpeace protested against the watering down of the federal government’s climate protection law. The activists were traveling on the Spree Canal in several kayaks on Friday morning, as a dpa reporter reported on site. They used white paint to paint the words “Climate Protection Act” that were sinking into the water on a canal wall in front of the Reichstag. According to a spokeswoman, the police are on site.
According to Greenpeace, the background to the action is the first reading on Friday in the Bundestag, at which changes to the Climate Protection Act will be discussed. Specifically, the protest is “against the federal government’s plans to weaken the climate protection law,” the organization said in a press release.
