Because of a possible bomb disposal, around 8,100 people in Hanover have to leave their homes on Sunday. After soil probing in the Hanover-Sahlkamp area, four ordnance from the Second World War had been suspected there. However, in the meantime, further investigations have shown that there is only one suspicious point, the fire brigade announced on Friday evening.

An evacuation radius of 1000 meters is required to finally explore this point and defuse the suspected ordnance. However, only 8100 people are now affected – and no longer 11,000.

In addition, several World War II grenades were found in the city gardening area, it said on Friday. These would be blown up on site as part of the evacuation measures already planned on Sunday. The evacuation area is not affected by this additional find. There is no danger to the population. The restricted zone applies from 9 a.m. on Sunday. The affected residents will probably not be able to return to their apartments until later in the day.
