Calais, Sunday morning saw the death of a migrant who was “a priori an adult” and more likely of African descent. We learned this from the prosecution: He was “lying down on the track”. Pas firefighters stated that emergency services were called at 6:02 AM for a male pedestrian of undetermined age who was struck by a freight train at Chemin Castre, southeast of Calais. -de-Calais.

Patrick Leleu, Boulogne sur-Mer’s deputy prosecutor, stated that the unidentified man was “lieing on the tracks, possibly in a sleeping bag” at the train’s arrival. He said that it is possible that he got up in the final moments of the train’s arrival, without the driver being able to avoid him. The man died instantly. The investigation continues Mr. Leleu, “either towards a suicide trail or one of significant alcoholisms, with disorientation” because the location isn’t the most accessible.

To identify the migrants, the Calais police station will approach them and their associations. Many migrants are living in camps along the French coast, including Eritreans and Iranians. They hope to cross into England. On March 1, a 25-year-old Sudanese immigrant died after being struck by a train as he walked along Marck, a nearby town to Calais.

A similar accident occurred just a few hundred metres away on November 4. A train struck a group comprising four migrants travelling on the tracks between Dunkirk & Calais. The accident resulted in one death, one serious injury, and two minor injuries.

A Sudanese 18-year old migrant died in Marck on January 15. He was crushed by a truck that he fell from while trying to climb onto it. A month prior, another 16-year old Sudanese boy died in Marck after he fell from a large weight at the Transmarck business area. A migrant was found dead in his trailer in Transmarck’s parking lot on May 11. The prosecution believes that suicide is the most likely explanation.
