Wolfgang Schäuble is in a good mood. In his typical idiom, a mixture of Baden and High German, he will tell a few anecdotes that will make the plenum of the Bundestag laugh across party lines, but will also get rid of some serious thoughts. His wife Ingeborg has come and is sitting with the family in the visitors’ gallery. Schäuble’s eldest daughter is visibly touched. It’s a special day on which the CDU politician is honored for 50 years of uninterrupted membership in the Bundestag, even though the actual anniversary was two days ago.
