Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 has to do without captain Silvan Widmer in the crucial weeks of the season. The right-back will be “missing for the next few weeks due to a capsule and ligament injury in the left ankle,” said the Mainz team on Monday evening after medical examinations on Twitter.
Widmer was injured in the 3-0 loss at VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday and was substituted. The club left open whether the 30-year-old could appear again in the final spurt of the season. The injury will be treated conservatively, it said. Mainz is currently still fighting for participation in the European Cup.
