Ottessa Moshfegh wrote “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” long before Corona. The original was published in 2018, but the novel about a young woman in New York who abuses pills because she wants to sleep for a year became the pandemic book. The thwarted life hit a nerve. Young women in particular made the novel a Tiktok sensation. Ottessa Moshfegh, born in 1981, has received several awards for her work and has long been one of the great voices of American literature. Her new novel, “Lapvona”, was published in English this summer; the German translation will follow at the end of January 2023.
