The German Navy’s Operations Flotilla 1 will have a new commander in January. As the Navy confirmed on request, Flotilla Admiral Henning Faltin will move to the USA and be replaced by Captain Sascha Helge Rackwitz at the head of the large association. The “Kieler Nachrichten” had previously reported about it.

Faltin only assumed command in September 2021 and had to adapt the association to the new circumstances after the outbreak of war in Ukraine. The Russian attack on Ukraine “changed basically everything” for the navy, said Faltin in an episode of the Bundeswehr YouTube format “Demanded” published on Friday. Speaking of strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure, he added: “Until recently, it was beyond the imagination that these blasts would happen on [the gas pipelines] Nord Stream 1 and 2.”
