The former deputy leader of the CDU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Michael Fuchs, is dead. A spokeswoman for the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate confirmed this on Monday on request. The spokeswoman was initially unable to provide any further details. He died at the age of 73.
Fuchs, who was born in Koblenz, sat in the Bundestag from 2002 to 2017 and has been deputy parliamentary group leader since November 2009. In his hometown of Koblenz, the pharmacist and entrepreneur sat on the city council from 1990 to 2006. According to the Bundestag, he held positions in several trade associations. From 1992 to 2001 he was President of the Federal Association of German Wholesale and Foreign Trade.
