After the more severe storm surge on Friday, Hamburg and parts of Schleswig-Holstein are expected to reach the storm surge mark again on Christmas Day. According to the forecast in Hamburg, the Elbe is expected to reach the storm surge threshold of 1.5 meters above mean high water (MHW) on Monday afternoon, as the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) announced on Sunday evening. Such values could then also be measured at the Elbe water levels in Glückstadt, Wedel-Schulau and Geesthacht. In addition, the BSH also expects flooding on the North Sea coast on Monday afternoon. According to the forecast, the storm surge mark could be reached in Dagebüll and at the Eider barrage near Tönning.

An increased water level of 1 to 1.5 meters above MHW is expected on the Elbe early on Monday morning. According to the BSH forecast, the storm surge level will probably not yet be reached. The water levels should then initially decrease.
