Mr. Friedl-Vallon, anyone who rides a hot-air balloon knows that the direction of flight can only be manipulated to a limited extent. How did China manage to let a balloon fly so purposefully over the USA? They probably copied the technology from Google or Alphabet. The company had invested a lot of money in the Google Loon project. Free-floating balloons were supposed to bring the Internet to corners of the world where there was no Internet connection.
How should that work? The basis for this is a very good weather model. This makes it possible to calculate how the atmosphere is stratified and where which wind directions prevail. Then all you need is a balloon that can change its height.
