Borussia Dortmund has conquered the top of the Bundesliga for at least one day. Coach Edin Terzic’s team celebrated their ninth competitive win this year with a 1-0 (1-0) win at TSG Hoffenheim and initially pushed FC Bayern Munich off the top of the table with 46 points.
The defending champion (43 points) can overtake BVB again with a home win on Sunday (5.30 p.m. / DAZN) against pursuer Union Berlin (43). Theoretically, Union still has the chance to finish matchday 22 as the front runner.
Leipzig defeats Frankfurt
RB Leipzig (42) also kept their chances for the title with a 2-1 (2-0) win in the Champions League round of 16 duel against Eintracht Frankfurt. In the relegation battle, the weak VfL Bochum suffered a setback with the 0:3 (0:2) at newly promoted Werder Bremen. VfL fell back to a direct relegation zone because Hertha BSC celebrated a 2-0 (0-0) win against FC Augsburg at home and temporarily moved up to 14th place. In addition, VfL Wolfsburg won 2-0 (1-0) at 1. FC Köln.
In a hard-fought game, it was once again Julian Brandt who put Dortmund on the road to victory. Wins for Wolfsburg, Werder and Hertha
In Cologne, Wolfsburg took an early lead through Yannick Gerhardt (4th), in the second half Maximilian Arnold (68th penalty kick) gave the Wolves the 2-0 lead.
After half an hour Bochum ran after the deficit through a goal by national player Niclas Füllkrug (29th). Niklas Schmidt (43rd) and Marvin Ducksch (59th) made Werder’s victory perfect.
In snowfall in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, Marco Richter (61st) and Dodi Lukebakio (70th) scored in the second round for Hertha’s well-deserved and important home win against Augsburg.
