A German armed with a machete was shot dead during a police operation in Austria. Officers went to a house in Bad Sauerbrunn on Friday because of a family dispute, where the fatal incident occurred, the police in the eastern state of Burgenland said.
The 55-year-old suspect threatened his wife with a machete. He ignored police orders to put down his weapon. The use of pepper spray also had no effect, it was said. The man then attacked and injured a police officer. In this situation, the attacker was shot by the police.
According to authorities, the man lived in Austria. The police and public prosecutor’s office did not provide any information about his origins in Germany.
