The scripts have been waiting to finally be implemented for months – and now the time has come! The Duffer brothers, the brains behind “Stranger Things”, started production on the new – and unfortunately final episodes – of the Netflix hit on January 8th together with the cast and crew. The streaming service announced this on Instagram, among other things.

A photo was published on the series’ account that shows the creators with numerous “Stranger Things” stars – including Millie Bobby Brown (19), Noah Schnapp (19), Sadie Sink (21) and David Harbor (48). In the commentary, Netflix sounds a “red alert” and announces: “‘Stranger Things 5′ production has officially begun!!!” In a press release, the streaming service promises that all fans’ questions will be answered in the new episodes.

US media had already reported in December that production would probably start soon. Insiders had told the industry portal “Deadline” that it should start at the beginning of January after postponements caused by the Hollywood double strike.

Season five, now in production, will be the last of the hit series. With around 140,700,000 views, the fourth season is currently the second most successful season of an English-language series on the streaming service. Only the first “Wednesday” season is more successful with 252,100,000 sightings. The first “Squid Game” season leads the overall comparison, including productions in other languages, with 265,200,000 views.

It is not yet known when the new season will appear. Actually, filming could have started months ago – but then the double strike by the authors and actors intervened. In May 2023, members of the WGA union went on strike, followed a few weeks later by members of SAG-AFTRA. The scripts were already completed at this point.
