The hospitality industry in Germany started the current year with growth. Price-adjusted (real), sales in January increased by 7.1 percent compared to December 2022, according to preliminary results from the Federal Statistical Office.
Nominally – including price increases – an increase of 8.9 percent compared to the previous month was recorded. However, the level before the corona pandemic in January 2019 was still 12.7 percent lower in real terms.
In gastronomy, sales in January rose by 11.4 percent in real terms compared to the previous month. However, it was still 12.0 percent lower than in January 2019. Hotels, guesthouses and other accommodation establishments recorded a decline of 1.0 percent, which means that sales were 12.7 percent below the pre-corona level.
