One of the biggest TV stars in Germany did not make it through the first round of the eighth season “The Masked Singer”: Jan Josef Liefers (58) was initially voted out of the ProSieben show on Saturday evening and then exposed. The “crime scene” star hid under the kangaroo costume. It was the craziest thing he had ever done, Liefers said to the cameras after the revelation. In total, he lost six kilograms under the costume.
As a kangaroo he performed the song “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke (46), but received the fewest votes from the audience and therefore had to leave after the first episode. “I would have liked to have been there,” said Liefers. He advised all his colleagues to take part in “The Masked Singer”: Nothing could happen except that you sweat and get a little slimmer. Surprisingly, Rea Garvey (49) from “The Masked Singer” advice team had the right idea before the unveiling and guessed Jan Josef Liefers under the kangaroo masquerade.
Both are also private friends and also know each other in their role as musicians. “Rea was the only one I was really afraid of because we’ve known each other for a long time and very well,” said Jan Josef Liefers afterwards. In addition to Garvey, Ruth Moschner (46) and in the first episode as a star guest Wincent Weiss (30) were also part of the advice team.
Three new masks were announced live on the show, following previous announcements of the raccoon, mushroom, shoebill, kangaroo, hedgehog and seahorse. On Saturday evening the Terry Elephant, the toast “Toastie” and a scary spider named Diamantula were added. The latter in particular caused goosebumps: Diamantula sang the cult James Bond song “Diamonds are forever”. Almost too much for Wincent Weiss: “I can’t sleep again tonight when I see that.”
