Actor Justin Long (44, “He’s just not that into you”) and actress Kate Bosworth (40) are engaged. The two broke the news on Tuesday’s episode of Long’s Life Is Short podcast, in which Bosworth appeared alongside Long and his brother, actor Christian Long, 41.
Apparently he wanted to propose to her on her birthday in January, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Long said his carefully crafted plan morphed into something completely different, “but much nicer.” “I had something special planned around your [Kate’s] birthday and about a month before that,” life changed “rather drastically, without any warning,” explains the actor. “It was a moment where it just felt so natural. It felt deeply connected to what we were going through. Real life transformation, and it came out in a very organic way.”
Bosworth confirmed, “We were just going through a really tough time and we had spoken to a therapist who gave us some really good advice: make sure you’re telling the other what you need fairly regularly, or ask the other what he needs.” She continued, “I remember waking up not too many mornings after that therapy session and looking at Justin and smiling at him and saying, ‘What do you need?'” she said. Then he looked at her and said: “To spend my life with you.” After some back and forth, he said, “No, I mean, I really want to spend my life with you,” she added, adding, “It was just… the words just came out so naturally.” “I thought it was the most romantic and honest and loving proposal,” the bride-to-be summarized.
Meanwhile, Kate Bosworth also announced the engagement on her Instagram channel. Alongside a series of photos documenting the couple’s infatuation, she wrote, “These things are weird to announce. How do you do it right?” It later said, “When life is short, find the one who will bring you endless peace and radical wonder. Justin Long, I’m so thankful it’s you.”
In the podcast, they explained why the two wanted to make the story of their application public at all: “I think we both decided to tell this because we would probably be asked about it. Then we thought about how we would do it talk about it in a way that makes us feel our best”.
Last month, the couple sparked engagement rumors during an appearance at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. The first reports of a relationship between the two emerged in spring 2021 after they met on a film project in Arkansas and hit it off immediately.
