Once again, the fantasy world of Westeros and the surrounding area is being brought to new life: As the pay-TV broadcaster Sky, which owns the broadcasting rights for “House of the Dragon” in this country, has announced, the second season of HBO is on – Production now in progress. The shooting started on April 11 in the British Leavesden Studios.
“We’re thrilled to be returning to work with members of our original family as well as new talent on both sides of the camera,” said Ryan Condal. He will serve as the new sole showrunner for the new episodes and will continue to serve as co-creator and executive producer. For the first season, which was praised by critics, he shared the job as showrunner with Miguel Sapochnik (48).
For the upcoming episodes, Condal promises more of what has always characterized the series from the “Game of Thrones” universe: insidious intrigues and epochal battles: “All your favorite characters will soon conspire at the council tables, march with their armies and on their Drawing dragons into battle, we can’t wait to show you what we’ve got in store.”
At the beginning of March, Condal had fueled the anticipation. At a screening event in Los Angeles, he promised that the second season of “House of the Dragon” would increase the number of dragons again. “You will meet five new dragons,” Condal said, literally, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A total of nine of the mighty creatures had already appeared in the first ten episodes of season one.
Speaking of the number of episodes: According to the US industry website “Deadline”, they will be a little shorter. This will no longer consist of ten episodes, but only eight. According to the report, it was initially intended that the new season would also include ten episodes. In the course of working on the screenplays, however, it was shortened by two episodes, as a spokesman for the producing broadcaster HBO “Deadline” is said to have confirmed. This allegedly has nothing to do with an attempt to reduce the costs for the complex series.
Although fewer episodes have to be filmed, the waiting time is still steep. While no official launch date has yet been confirmed, fans are expected to see the new kites in action in the summer of 2024 at the earliest.
