Two men were seriously injured in a gas explosion in a residential building in Freiburg. According to the police on Friday, they suffered skin burns and had to undergo surgery. The explosion ripped windows and doors from their anchorages. Other people were therefore probably not injured.
According to a police spokesman, an “older piece of equipment from a dental laboratory” in the basement of the house was the reason for the explosion. The exact cause is to be investigated with experts and structural engineers. Fire brigade, police and rescue service were on site with many forces. According to the DRK district association in Freiburg, almost 20 full-time and voluntary rescue workers from Malteser and DRK were deployed. The house was initially uninhabitable.
