Günther Jauch has been moderator of the RTL quiz show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” since 1999. Over the years, the 66-year-old has had a few candidates in the studio who have tested his patience. Jauch also needed good nerves in the episode broadcast on Monday evening. Tatjana Maria Browatzki-Kircher from Witten made it onto the council chair.

The teacher amused right at the beginning by saying that she would never watch TV at home and was therefore surprised at how difficult the questions in “Who wants to be a millionaire?” be. Jauch was a little puzzled and wanted to know from his candidate how she knew him if she never saw the show. “Do you remember 1985?” asked Browatzki-Kircher. What followed was not an anecdote about a joint meeting, but the candidate raved about the TV show “Live”, which Jauch moderated at the time. “It was a happy time,” he commented.

Tatjana Maria Browatzki-Kircher was completely unfamiliar with the format “Who wants to be a millionaire?” but not: your son was a candidate for the show last year and won 16,000 euros. That had to be topped, even if his mother was not very confident. Almost before every question, the 59-year-old emphasized that she had no idea and was already satisfied with winning 500 euros. Up to the 8000 euro question, she gambled successfully without a joker.

She also entertained with stories from her life. Tatjana Maria Browatzki-Kircher came out as a big fan of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. and as a chain smoker. Shortly before his death, she wrote a letter to the former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, asking whether he would like to transfer his supply of menthol cigarettes to her. “I didn’t get an answer,” said the candidate. She also chatted about her late husband, who was her German teacher and the director of her high school. “Was that allowed?” Günther Jauch asked a little irritated. The candidate clarified: “We only got married eleven years after graduating from high school. He was 25 years older than me.”

Browatzki-Kircher only needed the help of the audience for the 16,000 euro question and also drew the 50:50 joker. This gave her the correct answer to the following question: “In the national flag of which country can you see a Y lying on its side with a little imagination? A: Morocco, B: South Africa (correct), C: Egypt, D: Nigeria”.

The candidate used her two remaining jokers in the 32,000 euro question, but finally upset Günther Jauch. The question was: “In which category does one find the youngest person ever to be honored with a Nobel Prize at the time of the award? A: Chemistry, B: Literature, C: Physics, D: Peace”.

A woman in the audience correctly guessed answer D and named activist Malala Yousafzai as the winner. Candidate Browatzki-Kircher also asked a neighbor for advice as a telephone joker, but without pointing out Malala. Moderator Jauch then jumped up from his chair and threw his hands over his head. “You’ve never seen the show. You’re doing everything wrong,” he cursed. To everyone’s relief, the contestant logged in the correct answer at the end and went home with 32,000 euros.
