From classic model railways to miniature construction machines: the Intermodellbau trade fair opened in Dortmund on Thursday. Hobby tinkerers can find out about trends and innovations here for four days. The first day of the fair started in the morning with a large number of visitors, as a spokeswoman for the fair confirmed. 355 exhibitors from 17 countries are taking part in the show. In 2022 the event was canceled due to Corona.
The last Intermodellbau took place in Dortmund in 2021. At that time – still during the pandemic – around 40,000 visitors and 325 exhibitors came. Before Corona at the beginning of 2019, 77,000 visitors and almost 450 providers came.
Model making was particularly popular during the pandemic, as the toy trade association reported. After above-average growth rates during the two Corona years, the model making industry is now back to normal, the association announced. In 2022, the industry recorded a slight decline in sales of model railways, items for plastic model making and remote-controlled toys.
