Actress Selma Blair (“Legally Blonde”), who suffers from multiple sclerosis, reports on the special effect her cane has on her. “As soon as I hold it in my hand, my voice and my body calm down,” says the 50-year-old American in an interview with the fashion magazine “Vogue”. That’s why she has an emotional and physical attachment to the cane, calling it an “extension of me.”

The cane should not only help her, but also create visibility: “I believe that representation is important. If I can help remove the stigma or excessive curiosity in a crowd for someone else, then that’s great. ” In her eyes, many younger people had also started to show their sticks in public.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a nervous system disease that causes inflammation in the spinal cord and brain. Blair made her MS diagnosis public in 2018. For decades, her illness remained undetected by doctors, despite the loss of control over her own body. “If you’re a boy with these symptoms, you get an MRI. As a girl, you’re called ‘crazy’,” she said of her late diagnosis.

Nevertheless, Blair managed to make a career in Hollywood and starred in films such as “The One or No One” and “Hellboy”.
