Around every second bicycle owner in Germany is left without insurance in the event of theft. This was the result of a representative survey commissioned by the comparison portal Check24, the results of which were published on Sunday. Accordingly, 54 percent of those surveyed stated that they had not insured their bike against theft.
About every third person is protected against theft in the form of household contents insurance. According to the survey, only a small group takes out separate bicycle insurance. There are more insured among the owners of e-bikes: Two out of three stated that they had theft insurance.
Especially because of the trend towards high-priced bicycles, it is negligent to be on the road without appropriate insurance, said Braulio Dario Rissi from Check24. “Good anti-theft protection only costs a few euros a month.” As a rule, household contents insurance with a bicycle theft component is the cheapest.
The demand for bicycles and e-bikes is decreasing compared to the highs of the Corona times, as Check24 announced. 16 percent of those surveyed stated that they had already bought a two-wheeler this year or were still planning to do so. Last year it was 23 percent.
