The sentence against a blackmailer from the drugstore chain dm – seven years in prison – is final. “No appeal was filed,” said a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe district court today. According to the verdict, the man should also pay around half a million euros to the company.

More than a week ago, the court had convicted the 53-year-old, who extorted several hundred thousand euros in the cryptocurrency Bitcoin from dm in September 2019, among other things, for particularly severe predatory extortion and causing an explosive explosion.

In order to emphasize his claim, the German, who was last living in Constance and Switzerland, detonated an explosive device in a Freiburg dm branch near the cat food. There was damage of 20,000 euros. Nobody got hurt.

His motive: After repeated burnout as a nurse, he no longer worked and wanted to secure an income until retirement. The defendant confessed to the crime at the beginning of the trial. Prosecutors had asked for a nine-year prison sentence. The defense attorney had vaguely pleaded for a “mild sentence”.
